report_design -cambridge

At Cambridge, the day launches with a pretty early clock…the temperatures are pretty low and that makes the threshold voltage to wake up very high. Despite that people are up for a breakfast by 7am and there is a lot of simultaneous switching activity with kids walking, cycling to their schools, college students rushing on to the trains with their bags and cycles…coffee shops increasing in utilization…there r multiple routing layers with trains, buses, cars, cycles and walk…trains r mostly left to higher level hierarchy…bus layers r used mostly while some critical signals r routed on cars..there is always some lower layer walk or cycling involved though…nevertheless there is significant congestion on the roads during specific timing windows unlike the infinite timing windows in Namma ooru…the city floorplan is beautiful with proper macro spacings, lanes, uniform texture, colleges in beautiful old architecture ,    people following a proper process everywhere methodicall...

In and out

What we r seen outside is our abstract view; with pins to connect to, where can be routed and where not. What we r inside is deep, detailed layers with more accurate timing. But eventually the signoff timing, equivalence, lvs should all match

Krishnashtami - The other universe

“Mother, mother, Kanha is putting sand in his mouth” complained Balarama to the mother…angry and frustrated, Yasodamma asked the little Krishna to open his mouth…Krishna said no…mother insisted…Krishna opened his mouth…Yasodamma was stunned at what she saw…she was expecting to see sand/silicon and she is seeing the electrons, noms, pros, transistors, deep nwells, billions of transistors, routes, layers, vias, srams, power routing, signal routes, metal fill, flops, timing paths, switching nets, clocks switching, crosstalk, waveforms, bist, phys, IOs, bumps, floorpan, placement…a whole universe out there… Happy Janmashtami

Yoga day special aasan

Select a memory, put the data and sloowlee write in the memory…hold your breath…now slooowlee read out the data…hold your breath…check the write in vs read out data…this is called mbistaasana

The humble clock

A clock teaches us to keep calm and keep going, switching. You trigger some many flops and lives and ensure they r disciplined and meet their timing.  You keep more distance to noise thoughts. Have no fear and jitters. There is joy in equality and getting equal latency to all. One should mux and share the paths with other clocks with grace despite constraints. You are ‘Power’ful and hence there will be hiccups and gatings added. But you keep your duty cycle on. You keep your shields and maturity at higher layers. There will be falls and rises equally. You keep going on and on.

Hritikesh Kanitkar - robin Singh

Hrishikesh Kanitkar…naam to suna hoga…Independence day cup 3rd final, India vs Pak; Pak scored 314 runs which is big those days in 1998…HK hit a boundary of the last ball when we needed 4 runs of it. All the news carried was of HK and his last ball boundary. Before all this, Sachin’s brilliant 26 ball 41 with a string of boundaries eased all the high pressure for others…Saurav’s century followed…but one important innings was of Robin Singh. He anchored the innings and ably supported Saurav. Not sure how many know or remembered Robin Singh. He was one of the most dedicated team member. He bats at any number. He could anchor the innings with perfect run a ball rotation of strike; hit boundaries and over when needed; his running between the wickets was super quick. He could bowl to the stump for a decent fifth bowler; and most importantly he was a brilliant fielder.  But we don’t hear him much. He was a great team player. Great team players reminds me of our own Shash. I have ha...

goodbye Intel

I was a raw design module when I joined Intel and especially this group. Included in the team with many other modules, elaborated and made part of the larger soc. I made many new friendly connections, interfaced well with all of you and enjoyed being part of the design. I got optimized for better performance and as a person though increased in area a bit 😊 . There were glitches, defects, disconnects, hot spots, bugs and DRC violations but glad we fixed all and lec passes with basic functionality in tact. Together we achieved max as a team in the best and worst of timing corners and times. There were, at times, congestion and setup and hold violations but you all helped to see through them. We were a sea of logic gates but well placed and routed through the storms and peace. Its now sign-off time and am taping out coming Friday. I may be getting uniquified and instantiated afresh in another soc but part of me is pretty much part of this soc too. I may be out of this die but we are...
